EduKids: Making Education more accessible

EduKids funding goes directly to schools to allocate to children experiencing hardship or disadvantage. Recipient schools can only spend the funding on approved items and the program is monitored to ensure every dollar actually helps a child access to the tools needed to attend and participate in school.

Not every family is in need of the State Government’s Student Assistance Payment and for people wishing to make a difference, Variety WA has the solution. Donate your WA Student Assistance Payment to a child in need and know you are making a real difference to a child’s access to education

Last year we supported one fifth of public schools across the state, help us reach even more students in need in 2025!

“We know that lots of children need additional support with their schooling supplies, and this is a program that allows schools to buy really practical things that will make a difference to those children and their education.”

Meredith Jane Hammat, MLA, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Education

About EduKids

Variety’s EduKids Grants are a long-term, statewide education grant designed to offer practical assistance for Western Australian (WA) kids with the cost of back-to-school equipment.

Running for the past four years the successful EduKids program reaches some of WA’s most disadvantaged children in remote areas and it leverages the local school’s knowledge of which children are most in need, which varies from region to region.

In 2025, applicant schools could receive up to $1,500 per primary school and $2,500 per high school to assist a minimum of ten students each with the costs of uniforms, school bags, textbooks, booklist items.

"While it’s great that most families receive a piece of this $103 million cost-of-living bonus, the truth is not every child in WA needs that money as much as the next, and we know there is often a big gap even between students within the same school. What we’re trying to do with EduKids is reduce that gap to offer each child an equal opportunity to succeed.

"With one in five young people living below the poverty line in WA, we know that education is crucial to breaking the cycle of disadvantage. We encourage anyone receiving the Student Assistance Payment who is in a fortunate enough position not to need it, to donate the money to us to so we can ensure it gets to the kids who need it most. We believe there are people who do want to demonstrate kindness and generosity and we are providing the framework for that to happen.
Join us to help those in need have a better future.”
